Laser-based HMD patented by Apple

Apple has filed a patent for a laser-based head mounted display (HMD) unit that is small decent to be clipped on the user’s belt. An optical cable is used to transmit laser-generated video to the headset, and thanks to the implementation of extremely thin wedge optics, an image will be displayed right smack in front of the user’s eyes. The entire optical display element can be no thicker than 2mm, while the

entire HMD could potentially be no bigger than a pair of standard horn-rimmed glasses. When not in use, they will be made fully transparent. I’m already drooling at the possibility of watching video anytime, anywhere comfortably with that instead of holding an iPod all through a distant haul flight.
